The Feminine Mahogany is a place for women. I write, and I research, and I post things that offer me guidance, clarity, and catharsis. This is a small, burgeoning space where I make inquiries into femininity and womanhood, and often find surprising, magnificent answers through research, spirituality, and experience. So I hope you will join me here. I hope you find here that which is reflected in your own soul - that which may not have simple answers, but will bear what I believe, what I have found, and what I would love to share.
The light in me acknowledges the light in you, and beings of extraordinary beams of light we all are. I am because we are, so let us be here together, standing as women.
Who is Ayanda?
I am a researcher and writer at heart. As a child, my head was usually found in a book, wedged between the clouds. I loved a good mystery, and though I didn't set out to be a writer and a sleuth, it happened. I fell in love with sociology and its probes and its writing process, and published my MA thesis in 2019. I am completing my PhD, and all the adventures of that path have led me here, to continue publishing my research and my writing.
I am a feminist, and believe that feminism really is for everybody, in its quest to challenge and dismantle structures and ideologies that silence, oppress, and relegate the expression of femininity and the lived experiences of all womxn.
I started The Feminine Mahogany as my own need to explore and address my own needs, ambitions, and desires - and maybe some of you will be able to relate. I hope so.
